Our senior camp which takes place once a year over 2-3 days is an amazing experience for the children aged 10-12 and is a popular event in our senior school calendar. Besides being a memory-making trip where our seniors look forward to sleeping out, our indelible camp involves practical outdoor experiences, team-building exercises, and educational activities promoting social interaction between the children outside of the school premises. Forming social experiences away from school strengthens bonds of friendship and fellowship and reaffirms our school values of harmony and integrity.
Due to the unfortunate flooding of our traditional senior camp venue, Hadeda Creek, this year our camp was held at Dimalachite River Lodge, a world heritage site situated on the banks on the Vaal River. This picturesque site is named after the Malachite kingfisher which is known to rest on the river bank and we were all really keen to experience the wonders of this new camp venue in Parys. Accompanying the children to camp this year was our headmaster Marc Loon, teacher Lwazi and supportive parents who graciously volunteered their time to assist.

The camp began with our traditional deep check-in (a Kairos practice that invites each child to share what they’re feeling or needing at the moment), thereafter we immersed ourselves in exhilarating white-water rafting. It was certainly an adrenaline rush for many of us. Our seniors also thoroughly enjoyed the recreational games such as capture the flag and tent building which involved coordinated teamwork. The Kairos creatives couldn't have been more delighted with the abundance of activities at their disposal. From engaging in captivating arts and crafts sessions where they had the opportunity to create their own unique flags, to embarking on thrilling hiking expeditions that allowed them to connect with nature's beauty, every moment was filled with excitement. The joyous sounds of laughter echoed through the air as they plunged into the refreshing waters for swimming adventures, relishing the freedom and playfulness it brought. Moreover, the camaraderie and team spirit soared to new heights during the enthralling team sports competitions, igniting a sense of belonging and accomplishment among the participants. Truly, our Kairos children found themselves immersed in a world of endless possibilities, where joy, creativity, and a sense of togetherness blended harmoniously.
